Life's Journey

How often do the twists and turns of life get us off course? In this journey we can rest in God's divine plans. Let's choose today to embrace the path.

Trusting in the Journey

Sometimes it seems as though life can be like going on a journey.
Going from one place to another. Moment by moment. Day after day.
From one season to another. Following the wind as it blows.
Anticipating new adventures. Places yet discovered, but on the horizon.

You see life is full of life. Each day we get to choose whether or not we will embrace
all God has for us in the journey. The beauty of our journey is that God has carefully
and purposefully written it from the foundation of the earth. He hasn't overlooked
one millisecond of our existence.

In fact He knew you before you were even formed in your mother's womb! That's right
God knew all about your very existence and each day of your life before you came into being.
Now if He can see that far down the road, then surely He knows the daily plans
He has for you and me.

The question is will we fully embrace the journey? Will we willing accept what the
Father has chosen from the foundation of creation for our lives?

In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus said, "nevertheless not my will be done." He chose
to accept the Father's will for him. So that day in the garden Jesus relinquished all His
plans and said yes to a journey that would lead him to Golgatha; the place of crucifixion
on a cross.

We read in Genesis twenty-two that God tells Abraham to take is son Isaac,
the promised son, the one whom he loves and go to Mt. Moriah and sacrifice
him as a burnt offering. Basically God is saying- Abraham I know I promised
you and Sarah a son, but now I am sending you on a three day journey to a
place where you will give "the promise" on an altar.
Try to imagine what those three days would have been like for Abraham.
With every step he took he was drawing closer to that final destination,
the altar of sacrifice.

Now maybe your journey in life hasn't been this extreme, but you have see
some twists and turns along the way. Some unforeseen bumps in the road or
detours along the way. Abraham had such deep faith that he made the journey
with Isaac knowing they would return back. Abraham trusted and obeyed and
Isaac's life was spared.

Our journey has been written by the Divine Creator.
The very DNA inside each and every individual is God's personal
inscription upon humanity. He, the One and only Eternal Divine and everlasting
King has engraved (permanently fixed in one's memory) you and me
upon the palms of His hands. He said I will never leave you nor forsake you.
He is with us in the journey of life. Each and every step of the way.
He even goes before us to prepare the way.

Today, as you read this blog I invite you to take a moment and ask
God are you fully trusting Him with the journey? Or have you stepped out
and created your own path? Trusting in yourself and your own strengths
to get you to where God wants to lead you?
"I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity
and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for."
Jeremiah 29:11 (GNBDK)

HE CAN BE TRUSTED!!!

Listening to the sounds of the birds, the leaves gently blowing in the wind and laughter of children at the park. It is a good day to be alive.

One of my favorite songs “Too Good” by Abbie Gamboa sums up the thoughts in my heart.
“You're too good to be true
You're just too good, you're just too good.
You're too good to be true
You're just too good, you're just too good
I don't foresee you changing anytime soon
You've been this way ever since I met you
And you're not the kind to change with time
And the more I get to know you, the more I find
You're too good to be true
You're just too good, you're just too good.”

God’s goodness is all around us. Some days it’s in the smile of a child other days it’s the words aptly spoken to us by a dear friend. Honestly all of creation points to His goodness, like the stunning colors of fall as the leaves begin to transition off the trees and onto the ground.
This annual process has purpose, just as different seasons in our lives have Divine purpose.

We read in first Thessalonians that we are to give thanks in all circumstances. I believe that when we can begin to see our circumstances through God’s eternal goodness we can’t help
but give thanks. Knowing that He is right there with us by our side. Never leaving us or
forsaking us.

When we posture our hearts in the sea of thankfulness it allows for the Kingdom of Heaven to come and flow throughout our lives. Today may we open our eyes to see God’s goodness. Maybe it’s just around the corner or over that valley, but this I do know for sure…….
He is too good to be true!!

Covenant Love

True unconditional love. How many of us can say we have honestly experienced this kind of love? Or we demonstrate to others this love?

God proved His love for all humanity when He sent
His Son into the world to redeem us from our sins. And since we have been given the greatest demonstration of love, we too should love one another in the same way.

Love is seen in the little things we do throughout the course of our day. A smile we share.
A hug we give. A text message we send. An unexpected card you receive in the mail.
That special meal you cooked for your family. Time is also an expression of love.
When we give up some of our hours, minutes, and seconds in the day.
Love goes out of its way for another individual. Love never cost us anything.
All we have to do is simply reach into the depths of our inward being and allow the Spirit of God to move through us. He wants to radically pour Himself out through earthen vessels.

Once you have been touched in the inner chambers of your heart with this perfect love
you can’t help but want to share it with others.
An awareness begins to bubble up inside of you for those who have not encountered
the perfect love of God.
It is this love that is the motivating force behind every choice.

I know for some of us it may be easier to simply read these words
than it is to truly put them into practice and live them out.
I often ask myself, why is this so?
What happens within the human soul that causes us to choose to withhold love from others?

Love is a gift that we can freely give away each and every day. There is a limitless supply of love. We know that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God AND
to love our neighbors, as we love ourselves.
So why do we struggle with loving others as Christ has loved us?

In first Samuel chapter eighteen we get a picture of what it truly means
to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Jonathan, who is the King’s son, the one who is heir to the throne of Israel
demonstrates a deep love for another.
To me he is a picture of The Love that is soon to come and give His life for all humanity.
We read that Jonathan is bound to David in a covenant friendship and loves him
as he loves himself.
In one selfless display of love Jonathan makes a covenant with David that shifts everything!

Jonathan takes off his royal robe, his armor, sword, bow, and belt and gives them all to David. He has just symbolically transferred to David everything that represents his right to ascend the throne of his father, King Saul. And in this one act of love prophecy is being fulfilled.

Wow!
How many of us would honestly give up becoming the next royal leader of a nation
and all the benefits that come with that title and position?
We read in Philippians 2:7-8 about another who loved so much that he gave up his rights.
“But He emptied Himself —taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of men
and being found in appearance as a man.
He humbled Himself —becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Love is selfless. Christ gave His very life, so that we can have eternal life.
There is no greater demonstration of Love than to lay your life down for another.
In a world that is so full of envy, jealousy, strife, contention, hatred and brokenness my prayer is that we, the Believers of Yeshua would allow God’s perfect love to permeate into the very core of our soul...the very essence of who we are.
His love will and can dismantle everything that hinders love.
LOVE NEVER STOPS LOVING!!!

I have always loved hiking and biking. There is something innately in our DNA that longs to seek the unknown. We are all seeking or searching for something daily.

Back in September 2020 my husband and I travelled to Puerto Rico for a missions trip with our good friends at www.thehappygivers.com He is a builder and in construction so I got to tag along with him for two months. We had such an amazing time on the island. For those of you who know me, I was in heaven! Tropical warm blue waters, palm trees everywhere, and miles of hiking trails.

Each day I would wake up, have my morning latte and then begin my journey towards Cerro Gordo National Park. There was a trail that literally took you right to the edge of the island along the rocky shore where the waves would come crashing up on the land. The ocean mist was very refreshing on the hot humid days. I could stand for hours gazing into the distance just watching the waves roll in one after the other and meditate upon the amazing creativity of our Creator -God.

Some days I got to enjoy the morning walks with my AMAZING amiga, Catherine Rodriquez, man is she A LOT of fun!! We would walk the trails together singing, praying and taking in all of God’s beauty. Everyone needs a “Catherine” in their lives. A friend that sticks closer than a brother. Someone who sees white horses forming in the foam of the waves. Someone who runs into the splashing of the waves and isn’t afraid to get soaked by the salt water. She definitely made our walks along the paths playful and exciting.

Catherine lives in Puerto Rico so she knew all the right places to go. She knew when the paths would split off or head into a direction that maybe wasn’t the safest route. Yet some days we couldn’t take the same path due to the crazy storms from the night before, but she would always find another path to take. Her adventurous spirit could always see that there was another option. We just needed to be willing to explore the unfamiliar path in order to reach our destination.
My walks with Catherine reminds me of my journey with Jesus. He is our friend that will stick closer than any other. Deuteronomy 4:29 says that when we seek Adonai our God with all our heart and all our soul we will find Him. Could it be that Christ wrote into the very fabric of our being this longing to seek? Each and every human being is seeking after something or someone to fill the space in their hearts that is reserved for God.

On October 3, 2020 I got up just like every other morning and started out for my daily walk at Cerro Gordo it was about 9:30 in the morning. Determined to discover more I chose a different path that day. One which I had not yet explored. This path went deep into the park. There was so many different routes and options to take. I wanted to see it all! At one point I remember coming to a trail that was clearly marked with three different signs pointing which direction to go. Just like those signs, the Bible tells us that God’s Word will be a lamp and a light to lead us along our daily paths.

At this point in my walk I could hear the sounds of the ocean so I continued to venture on deeper into the park in search for the path that lead to sea. Eventually I found what I was searching for, but by now I was out of water and it was getting very hot and humid. I knew I needed to head back to the condo and call it a day. As I neared the end of the trail I saw a shortcut back to the main road and decided to take it. Oh boy how I wished I would have just stayed on the right path. That one decision landed me in the emergency room. I slipped, fell, slid down the hill face first, and then rolled several times. I was facedown in the hot sun on the grass. I was able to call my husband so he could come get me. By the time he arrived everything was a white blur. I couldn’t see anything, I could only hear his voice. The pain in my body was excruciating. The worst pain I have ever experienced and never want to experience again.

You see had I just followed the signs and stayed on the designated path I never would have ended up in the ER. As a matter of fact I wasn’t able to go on anymore walks for the rest of our stay. One miscalculated decision. Matthew 7:13 says “There are two paths before you; you may take only one path. One doorway is narrow. And one door is wide. Go through the narrow door. For the wide door leads to a wide path, and the wide path is broad; the wide, broad path is easy, and the wide, broad , easy path has many, may people on it; but the wide, broad, easy, crowded path leads to death.” (Voice)
There is a path for the righteous that the Lord will guard and watch over. I am so thankful that the Lord kept me from death that day. I am thankful that the memory of October 3, 2020 isn’t one of trauma, but rather a memorial stone upon the altar of my heart. A gentle reminder that like Enoch whose walk was pleasing to God or Abraham whose walk was blameless, we too can follow the path that the Lord has set before us. The Divine path that leads to Zoe —the fullness of life; eternal abundant life.

As I was lying in bed tossing and turning I decided to get up and send you a letter. I don’t remember if I have shared any of this with you yet, so forgive me if I am repeating my self. Also I share with you because I NEED PRAYER and a friend. Someone who will truly listen, care and love. Also someone who will see through the heart and eyes of Jesus. My lenses are foggy and somewhat distorted currently.

As I tried to write to my sister and share the details of what happened this summer I couldn’t do it. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I couldn’t remember the dates or timeframe. And as I sat and tried to remember it was if you were saying to me..”love keeps no record of wrongs” and that’s why I can’t remember the exact dates.

So how do I move forward with all that is stirring in my head and heart? If I look for any counseling outside of You and Your word then I will never be complete. I think of how David laid his heart open and bare before you, so I will start in the Psalms.

I know and realize that NOBODY knows my heart better than you Jesus..a friend that sticks closer than a brother. So I write and lean upon my friend. I share with you just as I would any other person. I move into a deeper place in my relationship with you. I know you are always listening and you care more than anyone else.

You know the truth, know our past and our future. Plus you are ALWAYS at the right hand of the Father interceding on my behalf. You’re not one to listen and then move on.

Some friendships don’t last for long, but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other!
Proverbs 18:24

Now it is 9:05 am and I am reading from my Charles Stanley devotion.
Psalm 88 is the passage for the day.
Verse 11-“Who can give thanks for your love in the graveyard? Who preaches your faithfulness in the place of destruction?”
Verse 13-“Lord, you know my prayer before I even whisper it. At each and every sunrise you will continue to hear my cry until you answer.”
Verse 18-“All my loved ones and friends keep far away from me, leaving me all alone with only darkness as my friend!”

The last verse makes me think of a song that I recently heard
The Sound of Silence by Simon Garfunkel

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seed while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, “The words of the prophets are written
On the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence

Jesus there is a darkness that you alone know and are not afraid of. You are in that darkness with us. So I will continue to come to talk to you again. I will listen for Your whisper in the…Sound of Silence.

Thank you for listening,
Me (your friend)

Wet and empty. Repairing the net represented the hope of a future catch. But after a long, exhausting night of repeatedly dropping the weighted net into the black nighttime water only to haul it back up empty left little room for any hope.
Hope had drained from the fishermen’s heart like water through an empty net.
A large crowd had gathered on the The Sea of Galilee’s shore, hungry to hear the wise words of the Teacher. The Teacher who had been stirring hearts and performing miracles around Galilee had amassed such a great following that He required a different vantage point from which to speak. The Teacher requested the use of a boat.
Simon, the owner of one of the fishing boats gladly allowed the Teacher the use of his boat. Perhaps it would serve the Teacher better than it had them.
The Teacher climbed aboard.
Simon pushed the boat out just off shore.
A fishing boat turned lectern.

As the fishermen went about their tedious, net-mending task Simon caught a few of the words the Teacher shared with the seashore crowd.
Words of Truth mingled with Hope. Simon’s heart was stirred - ever so slightly, but certainly stirred.

The Teacher returned the boat to the weary fishermen along with a command - return to the now sun-shimmering sea.
Return to that hopeless task.
Return to those soul-searing, fruitless attempts.
But this time…..
Row out even further!

More effort.
More time.
Partially mended nets.
It made no sense!

Simon’s sigh was deep.
His body ached.
Expressions of exhaustion and discouragement clearly displayed on the faces of his fellow fishermen.
And there was that “drained-hope” issue….

Simon began his protest. He began to explain the situation of which surely the Teacher was unaware.
Then an ever so slight pause.
A breath.
Was it something Simon saw in the Eyes of the Teacher that made him pause?
Made him relent?
“But if You say so…”*
And, relent he did, relent they all did, and the catch so massive the boat could barely contain it!

A quizzical whirlwind of emotion and unbelief filled Simon’s head.
This was utter nonsense!
Then again, who can argue with a fish-filled boat?

Simon’s reaction?
His certainly-stirred-heart now dropped Simon to his knees before the Teacher. His life, his heart, and even his name changed forever.

Is your heart feeling certainly stirred by the Teacher?
Sensing that He is doing something new - something different? Something that makes no sense?
Stop the endless and exhausting ruminating.
Stop the spiritual arguing.
Stop the overthinking.
Grab your un-mended net.
Climb into the boat.
Row out to the deep.
And, prepare for a
“drop-you-to-your-knees” experience.

BELIEVE!!!!!
*Luke 5:5 NLT

I had to continually remind her of the gifts she had just received and that Valentines will be here soon enough.

Sometimes in life, I feel like all I am doing is chasing the next holiday, next vacation or next career.
Something is always pushing me to go after the next thing. So much so that I don’t even linger and enjoy where I’m at currently.

This can even happen when I’m trying to read God’s Word and spend time in His presence.

Busy schedules push on us to head to the next thing. To keep moving and to keep doing; because that’s when we get things done..right? We see signs and plaques for sell in the stores telling us… “Good things happen to those who hustle.”

Yes, there is a time to hustle and there is a time to rest. There is also time to sit at His feet and just be with Him.

We make time for the things and people we love.
We clear out our schedules to meet with the “important people.” But I have to ask the question do we clear our schedule to meet with the most important person of all? —JESUS

Some of the most pivotal times in my life were in His presence. A moment in His presence can change your life forever. The freedom you feel, the love, the embrace, the tangible touch, the grace, the joy… it’s unending! And there is so much more to Him.
In Heaven, they never get tired of singing, Holy, Holy, Holy and looking at Him who is on the throne. Why because He is constantly WOWING them with who He is.
Revelation 4:8-11

Think about that for a moment.
For all eternity, they are doing the same thing and not growing tired or weary.
He is more than we can think or imagine. No other person has ever been or will ever be God above it all.

I encourage you today to take some extra time to just be with Jesus. Let Him WOW you. Invite Holy Spirit into your daily life. Your day may get interrupted by appointments you didn’t schedule. Like the lady at the coffee shop that just needs an encouraging word, or your co-worker who pours their heart out to you and you get a nudge from Holy Spirit to pray for them.

People will notice when you have met with God.
“Moses was so radiant after spending time with God he had to put a veil over his face” Exodus 34:29

When we spend time in God’s presence

He not only encourages us, He uses us to encourage others.

He will embolden you to be His mouth piece.

He will strengthen you when you are weak.

He will give you faith for the impossible.

He speaks life into you.

He will love you with an everlasting love.

The list can go on and on of what happens when you spend time with the Lord.

“Because he loved your ancestors and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.”
Deuteronomy 4:37-38 NIV

Let His presence guide you, you will watch the enemy flee, He will give you your inheritance, He will make streams in the dessert, He will make paths in the wilderness.
-Stay in His presence-

“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalms 16:11 NKJV

In honor of Love Month… if you haven’t heard it lately, let me just take a minute to tell you…

You are Loved
You are Valued
You are Worth more than you think
You are Beautiful
You are Enough
You Have what it takes

We may not hear these things from other people much or even from ourselves for that matter…. What exactly is the fall equinox? This is the moment when the Sun crosses the Equator, and those living in the Northern Hemisphere will begin to see more darkness than daylight. Essentially, our hours of daylight have been growing slightly shorter each day since the summer solstice in June. So for the next 3 months, our hours of daylight will continue to grow shorter. This is a change of Seasons.

Visible change is everywhere we look. All of creation is in sync with these changes. The colors on the trees are beginning to turn to golden ambers and hues of maroons, birds begin flying south to warmer climates, the temperature slowly begins it’s gradual descent into the cooler numbers and animal’s coats are even thickening up for the winter months. This is the one day that night and day are at equal lengths. This is the time of harvest. The farmers can begin to gather in their crops and feast on their labors.

We are all aware of these changes happening in nature, but are we also aware when change is taking place in us? Just like the changes in nature we too can have days when things are gradually growing darker in our hearts. There begins to be a slight tilt in us when we to begin moving away from leaning toward “The Son”. This turning away from Him will become evident in our daily routines. But why do we lean away from our source of Radiant Life? What causes the shifting in our hearts towards those darker days?

We read in Genesis 4:7 that sin is crouching at the door, and its desire is for us, but we must master it. What does this mean practically speaking? Sin is a miss or a misstep that is lying and waiting at the entrance or opening of the door to our heart, mind, and spirit. Sin desires and craves for our attention. Because sin was crouching at the door of Cain’s heart he in turn committed murder against his own brother Abel. Can you imagine the light in his heart that was gradually growing darker and darker…and then the darkest day came. Killing his own brother!

Now you may be saying oh I would never murder someone that’s really extreme. Yes I agree that is excessive, but our thoughts are also full of this darkness. We start off living in the light of Jesus, but sin is always beckoning us to open the door. All it needs is just a small crack and it will surely push its way into our mind and our hearts. So what is the remedy that counteracts against such darkness? John 14:6 “Yeshua said, “I AM the Way..” God also told Moses “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). In the beginning darkness was upon the face of the earth and the Spirit of God moved upon the waters. If the Earth needed the I AM to come and speak light into darkness how much more do we need The Great I AM?

The subtleness of the serpent caused Eve; who was made in the image and likeness of God, to open the door to sin that was waiting for her. God had given Adam and Eve everything they needed, they lacked nothing. Yet there was only one thing God commanded them not to partake of yet they disobeyed and sin was released upon the earth.

Yet the remedy and hope to mend that which was forfeited in the garden came through One Man Yeshua. He is the Light of the World so that we don’t have to live in darkness. Genesis 3:16 tells us our desire will be for our husband. Our desire for our Bridegroom Yeshua is the only way to keep the door of our heart closed to sin. Our affection for Him and our longing to be with Him allows for His brightness to outshine the darkness. “The Son is the radiance of the Sh’khinah, the very expression of God’s essence.” Hebrews 1:3

We can make a choice each and every day to not open the door and allow sin into our hearts. Love is the greatest cure in overcoming these long dark days. Yes we too will have seasons in our journey of life, just as nature has its seasons. And the cold dark winter days will eventually become brighter and warmer. There is a day coming when darkness will be no more for the glory of God will give its light, and the Lamb is its lamp. (Revelation 21:23) Be encouraged in the shifting of seasons because Hope is also knocking at the door of our hearts. Who will you let in?

What News Source are You Reading From
Written by Alycia Humphrey

If you are like the many households across America you probably have several Bibles in your home. Multiple translations, study guides, resources, and books too. Yet how many of those Bibles are opened on a daily basis? How many of us truly love to sit and simply read the greatest book of all times?

According to the Guinness World Records as of 1995, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time with an estimated 5 billion copies sold and distributed. What makes this “book” the top selling book of all times? And that doesn’t even include the ones printed and smuggled into restricted nations or our online bible apps that we read from today. The Bible is also the most translated book in human history!

So we know the number one selling book of all times is the Bible, but do we know it is also referred to as “Good News”? Matthew 11:5 "The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor." "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation ,the news that the God of Israel reigns!" Isaiah 52:7
So what makes this number one selling book of all times “Good News”? Let’s look a bit deeper into exactly what makes up this book.

The Bible is comprised of 66 chapters written over a period of 1,500 years from 1400 BC to AD 90 by approximately forty men of diverse backgrounds. The Bible has many different literary styles. It’s like a textbook that could be used for each subject in school. History, geography, poetry writing, debate class, drama, sociology, earth science, anthropology and many more. With all this incredible information why is it that it is not enjoyed and read more frequently?

We know that the Bible is the word of God and He inspired these men to write this book. Second Timothy 3:16 tells us that all scripture is God-breathed, so He chose the authors and breathed into them His Good News. So if it is news what makes it “good” news? There are all sorts of news sources available to us today? We have newspapers, television, radio, YouTube, Facebook, and magazines, each with their own specific content and subject matter. As the world evolves the endless amount of news resources continues to unfold almost daily with the help of the internet. Nowadays we can get breaking news update alerts within seconds delivered right our phones. No longer do we have to wait for a journalist to do the research, write, proof, and then publish the article. Media has changed tremendously with the age of technology. So what makes the Good News the most widely distributed news source of all times?

I love that the Bible refers to itself as the Good News, especially in a day and age when there is a vast amount of not-so-good news all around us. We don’t have to spend very much time viewing the current media outlets to see how much devastating news is happening globally and simultaneously. In fact the Good News even tells us that this time would come upon the earth. “See, the day of the Lord is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger —to make the land desolate and destroy sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.” Isaiah 13:9-13. Luke (which was written by a doctor) also tells us about these current days we are seeing in the news. Jesus says, ”Nation will rise agains nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and epidemics in various places, and there will be terrors along with the great signs from heaven.” Luke 21:10-11. You might be asking yourself how can this be considered good news?

This number one selling book was authored by God and written by at least forty different individuals with a variety of backgrounds. Some of them were fisherman, farmers, tent-makers, priest, singers, musicians, kings, fathers, husbands, some even wrote while in captivity and in prison. The one thing that each of these men had in common when they wrote was the message regarding the Good News —the salvation that is available to all through Christ Jesus. The world’s best selling book is like a letter from God to humanity that speaks of his love for all mankind. He loves us so much that He gave His one and only Son to become the redemption and atonement for our sins, because we live in a fallen world with evil all around us. And that is why we call the Bible The Good News!

Yeshua, The Messiah is the Good News. He is the One who brings hope, healing, peace, protection, freedom, restoration, mercy, grace, deliverance and life. John 10:10 reminds us that He came so that we may have life, and have it abundantly! Now that is GOOD NEWS!! Life more abundantly…over and above, more than is necessary, extraordinary, surpassing, and uncommon. Never in the history books before has any one person ever been able to make a promise like this, have the capability to fulfill it, and bring it to pass.

So, if you are not reading the Good News (which I call a love letter) then I strongly encourage you to begin. All it takes is opening up the best selling book of all times and allowing the words to take hold of your heart. They will begin to guide you each and every day in this journey of life.

I leave you with the words of a popular song:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.
A hymn written by Helen Howarth Lemmel. "The Heavenly Vision", also known as "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

As the days grow darker, the news becomes heavier, and the scriptures are rapidly being fulfilled let us remember He, Jesus, is Good News.

Freedom in the “NO”

When is it ok to say No? Why have we gotten so far away from the boundaries that lie within the word No? Finding freedom in a 2 letter word.

The Power of NO!

Published by Alycia Humphrey

I once had a friend tell me that the Lord was teaching her to say No. This conversation sent me on a journey of my own. The word No is so small…only 2 little letters; but yet how many of us today really are afraid of such a small word?

Whether it is a boss we can’t say No to because we are so driven to work, work, work knowing that it will produce a bigger paycheck than the last one. Or maybe we can’t say No to our children for the fear that they won’t like us as parents. Then there is the friend or spouse we won’t say No to when they are asking us to do something that is not within our capabilities or it doesn’t line up with our belief system.

Many of us have almost eliminated this little word from our vocabulary. We have allowed ourselves to be pulled into the new acronym ‘FOMO’— the fear of missing out.

Or we always want to please people. We desperately want to be liked and accepted.

Webster defines the word No as: not so —used to express negation, dissent, denial, or refusal. The word No can lead to so many other words that take on similar meanings; veto, contrary, forbidding, prohibit, rejection, withholding, and choice. Each of these words having their own specific definition and outcome of the word. So why has it become so difficult in our culture to say No?

Let’s go back to the beginning (the B’resheet) of time when The Lord put Adam and Eve in the Garden and said they could consume/eat from any tree. Yet there was only one tree they were not to eat from or else they would surely die. So why didn’t Adam and Eve obey and say No to eating from the one tree? You see dear friends you are not the only one who struggles with this little word. Even God’s own creation couldn’t say No. But why was that? Why was it that everything else God gave them in the Garden wasn't enough? Why did they insist on partaking of the one thing that the Lord knew was not good for them?

When a child reaches for a hot stove or begins to run out into the street in front of a car you will hear the parent will say “no don’t touch that” or “Stop don’t run into that street.” We can see that saying No in these examples kept the child from suffering from a burn or possibly even death. As children grow up they may begin associating No with withholding something from them that they want. Others may associate it with I shouldn’t because that is not what’s best for me.

This little two letter word No opens up a world of choices for humanity. It’s not always used just in the negative form. So why is it so hard to say?

When we take a look at modern day culture we can quickly begin to see the painful and damaging effects of saying yes when we should have said No. Unwanted pregnancies, huge debts looming over us, incarcerated individuals, unhealthy habits that lead to stress, worry, depression, and health issues that result from not properly caring for ourselves. You’re possibly even thinking of some of your own answers to add to this list right about now. So why is it we refuse to say No?

As I ponder the statement from my friend I am reminded of another word that is the byproduct of not saying No…entangled. When situations, opportunities, or questions arise that we should say No to (but we don’t) we become entangled. By definition entangled is: cause to become twisted with or caught in and involving (someone) in difficulties or complicated circumstances from which it is difficult to escape.
How many times have You or I become entangled and caught in a predicament that could have been avoided by simply saying…No?

Entanglement is like being caught in a web. Just as a spider waits for its prey after spinning the web, our inability to say No causes us to become trapped too. First Corinthians 10:13 tells us that the things that tempt us also tempt others and when we trust God He will and can give us a way to escape that temptation. This is how we become freed from the webs we weave —trusting in Christ. As we grow and our love for Christ matures we begin to truly value and hold sacred the word No.

We learn that there is Safety in No.

There is Freedom in No.

There is Liberty in No.

There is LIFE in No.

Today ask the Lord to show you any areas in your life where it has become difficult for you to say No. It all starts with just one No…then it becomes two and three and before you realize it you are no longer chained to ‘FOMO’ or the man pleasing spirit.

We read in 2 Timothy 2:4 that no soldier entangles himself with the affairs of life, because he wants to please the One who enlisted him.

Jesus Christ has given His life for us so that we may have life and the fullness of life.

Let today be the day we learn to say No to the things that will keep us from the fullness of life.

Let us pray—God I surrender my constant yes to You and ask that you would help me learn when to say No. I thank you that You are patient with me and that You are more than willing to teach me how to say No. Thank you for loving me. Amen
